ELP (English Language Proficiency) Specialist Required in Saudi Arabia

The ELP Specialist is responsible for supporting students in developing English language proficiency to succeed academically and socially. This role involves designing and implementing language instruction programs, assessing students’ language levels, and providing targeted support to English Language Learners (ELL). The ELP Specialist collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to create an inclusive learning environment that promotes linguistic and cultural diversity. This position requires expertise in language acquisition, instructional strategies, and a commitment to fostering language skills in a supportive, engaging manner.

Key Responsibilities

Language Instruction and Curriculum Development

The ELP Specialist develops and delivers language instruction programs tailored to students’ English proficiency levels. This includes creating lesson plans that align with ELP standards, incorporating reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities to enhance language development. By designing an engaging curriculum, the ELP Specialist ensures that students acquire the skills needed for academic success while supporting their cultural backgrounds.

Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring

A core responsibility of the ELP Specialist is to assess students’ language proficiency through standardized tests and other assessment tools. This includes initial assessments to determine proficiency levels, ongoing progress monitoring, and adapting instruction based on individual needs. By evaluating and tracking student progress, the ELP Specialist identifies areas for improvement and tailors instruction to ensure each student reaches their language goals.

Collaboration with Teachers and Support Staff

The ELP Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other educators to integrate language development strategies into mainstream instruction. This involves co-teaching, offering guidance on differentiating instruction for ELLs, and providing resources to help teachers support language learners. Through close collaboration, the ELP Specialist promotes an inclusive approach to language learning across the school environment.

Family and Community Engagement

The ELP Specialist works with families to support students’ language development at home and build a partnership for success. This includes hosting informational sessions, providing resources in students’ native languages, and facilitating communication between families and school staff. By engaging with families, the ELP Specialist strengthens support networks and encourages language practice outside the classroom.

Professional Development and Training

The ELP Specialist leads professional development sessions for teachers and support staff on best practices for language acquisition, cultural competence, and instructional strategies. This includes training on the use of language assessment tools, effective lesson planning, and techniques to foster inclusive classrooms. By offering training and resources, the ELP Specialist helps the school community better support English Language Learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in language instruction or working with English Language Learners.
• Certification in TESOL, ESL, or related English language instruction qualifications.
• Strong understanding of language acquisition theories, ELP standards, and culturally responsive teaching.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
