Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll records.
- Prepare and review financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring they are accurate and comply with accounting standards.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
- Perform reconciliations of bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy.
2. Accounts Payable and Receivable Management
- Monitor accounts payable and ensure that all invoices are processed, verified, and paid on time, while adhering to company policies.
- Manage accounts receivable by issuing invoices, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.
- Maintain accurate records of customer and supplier transactions, ensuring proper documentation is kept for auditing purposes.
- Collaborate with the finance team to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to payments and receipts.
3. Budgeting and Financial Analysis
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, providing detailed analysis and insights to support decision-making.
- Monitor actual financial performance against budgeted figures, identifying variances and providing explanations for significant differences.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities for cost savings, and areas for improving profitability.
- Support management in making informed financial decisions by providing detailed analysis and recommendations.
4. Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate records for tax purposes, including receipts, expense reports, and other relevant documents.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations, advising management on potential impacts and necessary adjustments.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely completion of audits and tax filings.
5. Internal Controls and Process Improvement
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company’s financial assets and ensure accurate reporting.
- Review existing accounting processes and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
- Assist in the development and documentation of new policies and procedures to enhance financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and support the overall business strategy.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Additional Requirements
- Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) are a plus.
- Experience with financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting is highly desirable.
