Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Assurance (QA) Management

As part of the QA responsibilities, the QA/QC Engineer develops and implements quality management systems and processes to prevent defects or non-conformance issues during production. This involves setting quality standards, creating test plans, and ensuring that the entire team is trained on quality procedures. The engineer ensures that all processes and procedures are followed throughout the production lifecycle. They work closely with design and production teams to ensure quality is built into each stage of development.

2. Quality Control (QC) Inspections

On the QC side, the engineer is responsible for conducting inspections and tests on products and services to detect any defects or non-compliance with the quality standards. This includes visual inspections, measuring dimensions, and conducting laboratory tests on raw materials or finished goods. The QA/QC Engineer must document findings, create reports, and provide feedback to production teams on any corrective actions that need to be taken to address quality issues.

3. Developing and Implementing Quality Procedures

The QA/QC Engineer develops and maintains quality procedures that are aligned with industry standards and regulations. They ensure that all employees understand and follow these procedures. This may involve creating detailed manuals, guidelines, and documentation to outline quality control practices. The engineer works to continuously improve these procedures to enhance product quality and ensure compliance with international quality standards, such as ISO certifications.

4. Collaborating with Cross-Functional Teams

The QA/QC Engineer works closely with various departments such as production, procurement, and design to ensure that quality standards are maintained across all functions. This collaboration includes reviewing product designs for quality risks, overseeing supplier quality management, and working with procurement teams to ensure that raw materials meet quality specifications. By coordinating with these teams, the engineer ensures that potential quality issues are addressed early in the process.

5. Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)

An essential aspect of the role is to identify the root causes of quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). The QA/QC Engineer leads investigations into defects or non-conformances, determining their causes, and working with teams to prevent recurrence. This may involve updating processes, improving materials, or modifying equipment to enhance product quality.

6. Compliance and Regulatory Standards

The QA/QC Engineer ensures that all products and processes comply with applicable industry regulations and standards. They stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure that the organization adheres to them. This involves conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure that quality and safety standards are consistently maintained. They also prepare for and participate in external audits and inspections carried out by regulatory bodies or clients.

7. Reporting and Documentation

The QA/QC Engineer is responsible for maintaining detailed records of all quality control activities. This includes preparing reports on inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions taken. These reports are often shared with management to keep them informed of quality issues and the effectiveness of quality control efforts. Accurate documentation is also essential for compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

A successful QA/QC Engineer should have a strong background in quality management, with expertise in quality assurance and quality control practices. They should be proficient in quality management systems, statistical process control, and inspection techniques. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential for identifying and addressing quality issues. Additionally, strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively with cross-functional teams. A degree in engineering or a related field, along with certifications in quality management (e.g., ISO 9001), is often required. Experience in a relevant industry, such as manufacturing or construction, is highly valued.

This role plays a vital part in ensuring that products and services meet the highest standards of quality, contributing to customer satisfaction and the company’s reputation for excellence.
