Key Responsibilities

Economic Analysis and Project Evaluation

• Conduct detailed economic analyses of transport systems, projects, and policies to assess their impact on economic growth, sustainability, and social equity.
• Develop cost-benefit analyses, demand forecasting models, and feasibility studies for proposed transport projects.
• Evaluate transport infrastructure investments and policies, providing recommendations to maximize economic returns and societal benefits.

Policy Development and Advisory

• Advise governments, organizations, and stakeholders on transport policies and economic strategies to improve system efficiency.
• Contribute to the development of national and regional transport policies, aligning them with economic, environmental, and social goals.
• Provide expert input on pricing strategies, subsidies, and funding models for transportation projects.

Data Collection and Research

• Gather and analyze data related to transportation costs, usage patterns, demand trends, and economic performance.
• Conduct research on emerging trends in transport economics, such as the impact of technological advancements or climate change on transportation systems.
• Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement

• Lead multidisciplinary teams in delivering transport economic studies and appraisals.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, and policymakers to integrate economic insights into project design and implementation.
• Engage with stakeholders, including public agencies, private investors, and community groups, to ensure alignment with economic goals and public interests.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Develop performance indicators to measure the economic impact of implemented transport policies and projects.
• Monitor ongoing projects, providing insights and adjustments to ensure goals are achieved effectively.
• Report on lessons learned and best practices to inform future transport initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Master’s degree or higher in Transport Economics, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field.
• Experience: At least 8 years of experience in transport economics or a related field, including project appraisal and policy advisory roles.
• Expertise in economic modeling, cost-benefit analysis, and demand forecasting.
• Strong understanding of transport systems, infrastructure, and sustainability principles.
• Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in statistical and modeling tools.
• Exceptional communication and presentation abilities to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
• Experience in managing projects and leading teams.

Working Conditions

Senior Transport Economists typically work in an office environment, with occasional fieldwork to gather data or engage with stakeholders. The role may involve travel to attend meetings, conferences, or site visits. Extended hours may be required during critical phases of project evaluation or policy development.
