Key Responsibilities
1. Safe Driving Practices
- Operate buses safely and efficiently, adhering to traffic laws, organizational policies, and assigned routes.
- Maintain full control of the vehicle at all times, adjusting to changing road and weather conditions to ensure passenger safety.
- Monitor vehicle performance and report any mechanical issues or malfunctions promptly.
2. Passenger Assistance
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, especially those with special needs or disabilities.
- Provide courteous and professional service, addressing passenger inquiries and concerns.
- Ensure that all passengers adhere to safety guidelines, such as wearing seatbelts where applicable.
3. Route and Schedule Management
- Follow designated routes and maintain strict adherence to timetables to ensure punctual service.
- Notify supervisors or dispatchers of delays, accidents, or route deviations.
- Keep updated on route changes, construction, or road closures to adjust travel plans accordingly.
4. Vehicle Maintenance and Cleanliness
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after shifts to check for any safety or mechanical issues.
- Keep the bus clean, both inside and out, ensuring a tidy and welcoming environment for passengers.
- Refuel and maintain proper fluid levels to ensure the bus is operational at all times.
5. Emergency Preparedness
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as accidents, medical incidents, or vehicle breakdowns.
- Follow established protocols for evacuating passengers safely in case of emergencies.
- Communicate promptly with emergency services and the organization to ensure swift action.
6. Record-Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, schedules, and passenger counts, as required.
- Document and report incidents, accidents, or vehicle issues to supervisors in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in vehicle operations is a plus.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.
- Proven experience as a professional driver, preferably in public or private transportation.
- Strong knowledge of traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Physical fitness to assist passengers and handle extended periods of driving.
