Responsibilities
1. Vehicle Operation and Maintenance
- Drive heavy vehicles, including trucks, buses, or trailers, to transport goods or passengers to designated locations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Report any mechanical issues or damages to the vehicle and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.
2. Cargo Handling and Delivery
- Load, secure, and unload goods in accordance with company protocols and safety guidelines.
- Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to meet scheduled timelines.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including invoices, receipts, and any special instructions.
3. Compliance with Traffic Laws and Safety Standards
- Adhere to all local and national traffic laws and company policies while operating the vehicle.
- Follow safety protocols, including wearing seat belts and using proper signals while driving.
- Ensure the proper handling of hazardous or perishable goods, complying with relevant regulations.
4. Communication and Coordination
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and clients to provide updates on delivery schedules or delays.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally during deliveries.
- Coordinate with team members to optimize logistics operations.
5. Record-Keeping and Documentation
- Maintain logs of working hours, distance traveled, and fuel usage as per regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all vehicle-related documents, including licenses, permits, and insurance, are up to date and available during trips.
Qualifications and Skills
- Valid heavy vehicle driving license as per local regulatory requirements.
- Proven experience as a heavy vehicle driver, preferably in a logistics or transportation environment.
- Excellent driving skills with a strong understanding of traffic rules and road safety.
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle long hours of driving and occasional manual labor.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
