Key Responsibilities:
- Health and Safety Compliance: The HSE Technician ensures that the workplace adheres to all relevant health and safety regulations. They also assist in developing and enforcing safety policies and procedures to reduce risk and protect employees.
- Safety Inspections and Audits: The technician conducts regular inspections of the workplace, including equipment, machinery, and work environments, to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes assessing risks, performing hazard analysis, and recommending corrective actions when necessary. They also assist in preparing for internal and external safety audits.
- Incident Reporting and Investigation: In the event of workplace accidents or near-misses, the HSE Technician is responsible for conducting investigations to determine the cause, identifying corrective actions, and preventing recurrence. They help in documenting incidents, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
- Training and Education: The HSE Technician provides training to employees on health, safety, and environmental best practices. This includes educating staff on personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency procedures, and safe work practices. They also conduct regular safety drills, such as fire drills or evacuation procedures, to ensure employees are prepared in case of an emergency.
- Environmental Monitoring: The role involves monitoring environmental conditions in the workplace to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Background: A diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is typically required. Additional certifications, such as NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification, are highly preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience in a similar role, particularly in industries with high safety or environmental risks (e.g., construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, etc.), is essential. A strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental laws is important.
- Knowledge of Safety Standards: The HSE Technician must have a comprehensive understanding of local and international health, safety, and environmental regulations. They must stay updated on changes in safety laws and best practices.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The role requires excellent problem-solving abilities to identify hazards, analyze risks, and propose effective solutions to ensure workplace safety.
