HSE Technician Required in Oman

An HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Technician is responsible for supporting and implementing health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures within an organization. The role involves monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting safety inspections, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment. The HSE Technician plays a key role in reducing workplace hazards, preventing accidents, and ensuring the organization operates in an environmentally responsible manner. This position requires strong knowledge of safety protocols, risk management, and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Health and Safety Compliance: The HSE Technician ensures that the workplace adheres to all relevant health and safety regulations. This includes monitoring and ensuring compliance with local, national, and international safety standards, and preparing for audits and inspections. They also assist in developing and enforcing safety policies and procedures to reduce risk and protect employees.
• Safety Inspections and Audits: The technician conducts regular inspections of the workplace, including equipment, machinery, and work environments, to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes assessing risks, performing hazard analysis, and recommending corrective actions when necessary. They also assist in preparing for internal and external safety audits.
• Incident Reporting and Investigation: In the event of workplace accidents or near-misses, the HSE Technician is responsible for conducting investigations to determine the cause, identifying corrective actions, and preventing recurrence. They help in documenting incidents, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
• Training and Education: The HSE Technician provides training to employees on health, safety, and environmental best practices. This includes educating staff on personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency procedures, and safe work practices. They also conduct regular safety drills, such as fire drills or evacuation procedures, to ensure employees are prepared in case of an emergency.
• Environmental Monitoring: The role involves monitoring environmental conditions in the workplace to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. This may include overseeing waste management practices, ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials, and promoting sustainable practices to minimize the organization’s environmental footprint.
• Emergency Response Planning: The HSE Technician assists in the development, implementation, and testing of emergency response plans. They ensure that all employees are familiar with emergency protocols and that emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits, is available and properly maintained.
• Reporting and Documentation: The HSE Technician is responsible for maintaining accurate records related to health, safety, and environmental activities. This includes documenting safety inspections, training sessions, incident investigations, and compliance audits. These records must be properly stored and accessible for audits or regulatory review.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Educational Background: A diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is typically required. Additional certifications, such as NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification, are highly preferred.
• Experience: Proven experience in a similar role, particularly in industries with high safety or environmental risks (e.g., construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, etc.), is essential. A strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental laws is important.
• Knowledge of Safety Standards: The HSE Technician must have a comprehensive understanding of local and international health, safety, and environmental regulations. They must stay updated on changes in safety laws and best practices.
• Problem-Solving Skills: The role requires excellent problem-solving abilities to identify hazards, analyze risks, and propose effective solutions to ensure workplace safety.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to document safety activities, report findings, and deliver safety training. The HSE Technician must also be able to effectively communicate safety concerns to management and staff.
• Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is required when conducting inspections, reviewing safety records, and identifying potential hazards.

Working Conditions:

The HSE Technician typically works in a variety of environments, including office spaces, factory floors, construction sites, or other industrial settings. The role may involve exposure to hazardous materials or working conditions, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The work may also involve being on-site for inspections, audits, and training sessions. The technician may be required to work irregular hours, including weekends or evenings, depending on the needs of the organization and the urgency of safety-related issues.
